Aussie team leaps to second following Nations Cup cross country

The Australian team has leapt up the leaderboard following the cross country phase of the CCIO4*S Nations Cup at Haras de Jardy in France, finishing the day in second place behind France.

It was a fabulous effort by the Australians, as they are the only one of ten teams without a fourth combination and therefore they have no drop score.

Kevin McNab and Willunga were clear with just six time penalties and finished the day in 15th place on 36.3, while Megan Jones and Toulando were also clear and added 12 time faults to their score to finish on 48.5 for 31st place. Rebecca Braitling and Caravaggio moved from 73rd to 39th place after a great clear round with 14.8 time faults, and they finished the day on 55 penalties.

French riders fill the top three placings heading into Sunday’s show jumping, with Maxime Livio and Api Du Libaire maintaining their dressage lead on 27.1 penalties.

The Aussie team are on a total of 139.8 penalties, just ahead of Belgium on 142. France will take some beating in the final phase on Sunday, with their team score of 93.8 giving them plenty of breathing space.

The final horse inspection is due to take place Sunday at 9.15am local time (5.15pm AEST), with the showjumping schedule to begin at 12pm local time (8pm AEST).
