The European Championship Quadriga 2023 starts with the FEI Eventing European Championships for eventing riders from August 10th to 13th at Haras du Pin in France. This championship becomes even more thrilling with an eye on the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, as the course designer for the eventing cross-country at the European Championship and the Olympics will be Piette Le Goupil. The German national coach, Peter Thomsen, describes his expectations for the cross-country course as “diagonal, narrow, and angular”: Approximately 6,000 meters long with 30 obstacles and 41 jumps, according to the organizer. Haras du Pin, located in Normandy, is the oldest national stud farm in France, commissioned by the Sun King Louis XIV in 1715, offering a unique and regal backdrop. The defending champions in the team competition come from Great Britain, while the German quartet secured silver at the 2021 EM in Avenches, and bronze went to Sweden. In the individual competition, the three British women, Nicola Wilson, Piggy March, and Sarah Bullimore, created a sensation by occupying all three podium places. 58 rider-horse pairs from 14 nations have submitted their entries for the FEI Eventing European Championship. When the first Europeans were held 70 years ago in 1953, only three teams competed, and two of them had to withdraw. This equestrian discipline has continuously evolved, remains unmatched in complexity, and has proven to be the “crown of riders

The second group of equestrian athletes to crown their European champions this season are the showjumpers: at the ENIT FEI Jumping European Championship 2023 in Milan, Italy, from August 30th to September 3rd. Sixteen teams and ten individual riders from various nations will compete, and almost anyone can win. Perhaps no other discipline has seen such an advancement in competitive level as showjumping. Medals are often decided by the last pole, making for guaranteed sporting drama. At the 2021 European Championship in Riesenbeck, the host showjumpers won the silver medal, and bronze went to Belgium. The gold medal, however, was secured by the team from Switzerland. Steve Guerdat, the last rider for Switzerland, knew he couldn’t afford more than one knockdown. An error did occur, but Guerdat kept his cool and completed the rest of the course faultlessly, resulting in gold for the small but fine equestrian nation, known by many primarily for skiing. Sporting drama at its finest. The individual gold medal at the 2021 European Championship was celebrated by André Thieme and DSP Chakaria – the first German individual title in 14 years, and a spontaneous declaration of love from the European champion: “I love this mare just asmuch as my wife!” A truly unique display of sporting emotions. San Siro, the place where European showjumping history will be written this year – almost certainly with more drama and excitement, and perhaps even with spontaneous declarations of love. As a premium member of ClipMyHorse. TV, you can witness it all live.
